Using Big Business Sponsorship to Market Your Home Based Business Ideas

The Year 2008 is flying by fast! You might be a Race Enthusiast or a Base-Ball Fan with a specific team as a favorite. When you are watching races or sports of some type, how many times do you see an Official Sponsor, Partners or Suppliers? The Race Cars alone are display ads and if you are watching sports you have alot of opportunity to get a snack during their many comercials. How many times to you associalte a certain product to what you have seen and heard? Everything from shoes to underwear!

Of course, some of these associations make good sense, but, there are also dozens of Official Suppliers whose sporting links are questionable at best. For example, McDonald’s, not best known for its healthy menu, is the official restaurant of Beijing 2008, for the 2008 Olympics.

And while Mao is no doubt spinning in his grave, and some may wonder about the choice, it’s a perfect example of why sponsorships appeal to business. Not only do they get massive exposure by advertising their wares at these Sporting events but they also get to be added to an event or organisation’s brand equity and goodwill in the process. Sponsorship Ads are Big Business!

Now the Sporting Arena may be a bit out of reach for most businesses, but with so many events and causes in need of support, even the smallest of businesses can effectively use sponsorship as an exciting way to connect with their target markets.

1. Consider who and what you might like to sponsor. Your sponsorship will ideally align well with your product / service but it’s even more important that it aligns with your prospective customers’ interests and values. Remember you should to believe in what you sponsor.

To create the perfect sponsorship package, it’s often better to do the approaching as a potential sponsor rather than wait to be approached. To help generate some unique sponsorship ideas, start by asking yourself what matters to your customers (outside your business) and then look for opportunities to get involved - and events and organizations to get involved with. For me, my business products aligne perfectly with what I believe to be an improtant element for maintaining the earth and it's atmosphere for future generations as well as healthy products (Make Up), and health products for staying healthy. Products for not only losing weight but also heart health and more. If I didn't believe in a product, I couldn't market it.

2. It’s about more than just advertising space. You should be looking for as holistic a sponsorship package as possible. This might include advertising, being named as a sponsor in marketing materials, joint press releases, data collection or anything else you can think of and for me I like to work along side other successfull marketers. Knowledge is power and combined knowledge can be a powerfull source of resources. As they say, two heads are better than one. A group of individuals coming together with the same beliefs and goals can be a source of encouragement and keep you in the best state of mind and continuation of your growth as an internet marketer.

If you’re the person approached to possibly be a sponsor, it’s worthwhile suggesting additions that the organizers may not have thought of. The costs may be another part that you will have to consider but your ideas will usually be of benefit to you both.

3. Sponsor in kind, not just cash. Quite often your expertise, product or service can be as valuable as your cash. Look for opportunities where you benefit from both promotional opportunities and the chance to show off what you can do. For example, a landscaper could sponsor a neighbourhood renewal project by providing supplies and manpower rather than just cutting a cheque. A bakery could support a children’s hospital by supplying goodies for a bake sale. I offer my aid to those who want to learn about online marketing, by offering free mentoring.

Mentoring has become a big business item and can be costly. Make sure you know what the mentoring programs that you check out will cost you. I have made the mistake of signing up for some mentoring and not be able to cancel it for 1 year. It cost me 50.00 bucks a month and it was not a good mentoring program because I had no interest in the products they were focused on marketing and the training lacked. In fact I never got one answer to any of my questions and they didn't even call me back until they knew I wanted to cancel!!

4. Do the follow up. In order to make a big splash you have to jump in the water! No one has ever even gotten wet just by sitting on the sidelines, that is unless someone in the water splashes you! Don't stop once you get the energy going... Make sure you get the most from any PR opportunities through the local press both before and after the event. Offer to do an interview, have an open house, sponsorships are an excellent opportunity for you to network and build contacts. Build your reputation not only on the internet but in your area of the world! People buy from people. Make yourself available. Feeling good about yourself and your product will help you build self-esteem and your network of friends and marketers will grow and so will your business.

5. Think social. Supporting good causes and events is something that shouldn’t need a whole lot of financial justification anyway. So if you’re in need of sponsorship ideas, look to put your time and money towards something worthwhile for your community. Become a part of the solution for worth-while events. Events like "A Race For The Cure" or any other anual event that helps to support or find cures for everything from cancer, alzheimers, autism, diabetus or any other de-habilitating illness that gives you the opportunity to help families to cure or cope with them.
